Question: French or Chinese?
I live and work in Melbourne Australia, I grew up in an Asian country – not China – and I am a second generation Chinese. I don’t speak a single word of Chinese, despite looking very Chinese and yes I find French very exotic…
I am a tax accountant…
Do you think I should learn French or Chinese? Chinese sounds very hard…
Does that mean I need to move interstate to setup the business together Miss Schlonky? But Victoria is so good![]()
Answer: I think you should learn Chinese, then leave your dodgy job and come set up a non-dodgy Asia specialised international taxation practice with me

Answer 2:
That’s a good point but Sydney is my favourite city, which would make it a bit tricky for usWell, whatever you do, you don’t have to work with dodgy people forever so keep your chin up and remember you’re worth a lot more than they can give you credit for.
French could be more fun… maybe if you spoke Chinese, other people would talk back at you really fast because they think you are Chinese. So you could be more mysterious and surprising with French. I am no good at learning Vietnamese – monosyllabic spoken languages are so awkward when you naturally run all your words and syllables together. I found German a lot easier just as you will find French easier too.
(p.s. I recently quit my job and set up solo – it’s awesome! I don’t even have to record my time billing if I don’t feel like it and now I always knock off at 5pm. yay

- Bookkeeping Services
- Financial Advisers
- Insolvency Practitioners
- Payroll Services
- Tax AdvisersAlso if you could recommend any good charted accountant buisnesses in Bristol that would be great.
Answer: bookkeeping is like accounts payable and accounts receivable, you are balancing the books. basically reconciling transactions or keeping track of what money comes in and what goes out, and making sure that what came in makes sense with what was spent.
financial advisers are basically stock brokers, they help people choose what to invest there money in, from stocks and bonds to money market accounts, and ira’s.
tax advisers obviously help people with their taxes

Question: Nurse becoming an accountant?
I am currently working as a nurse, but I have always known (even since nursing school) that this is not what I really want to do with my life. I’ve recently been thinking about going back to school for something else. I don’t really want to be involved in healthcare anymore. I was thinking about going back to school to become an accountant. If anyone could give me any advice on the career (typical days, different opportunities, likes and dislikes) I would appreciate it. I worked in a tax preparation office for a few years as a receptionist so I know a little about the business, but I was wanting some more input. Thanks!
Answer: Accounting pays fairly well and is always in demand, with a diverse amount of career options. As an accountant, you will probably get better at managing your finances.
If you are a book-keeper, then that could be the same thing all the time, but steady work. Some people like this. If you want to be in auditing, then be prepared for long work days and stress from having to meet deadlines. If you like computers, then you could focus on accounting systems by slanting your education to be heavier in technology — there is a lot of need for this in the medical industry, and you already know a lot about that field. Maybe you should strongly consider this. Plus, nurses are typically people oriented, and this could help you to interact with everyone in the information chain. Accounting can blur very much into the consulting realm and creative people definitely have a space for themselves in these types of roles.
Downsides are that people make jokes about you as an accountant, and traditional jobs like auditing could be quite boring. You sit in front of a computer all day, instead of walking around as a nurse — this is actually a big deal when you look at all the fat accountants out there.
The Rise of Decline: When things are bad, should we be praying for worse?
When Andrew Joseph Stack, a software consultant with a history of tax troubles and marital problems, crashed his Piper Cherokee into the Austin, Texas, office of the Internal Revenue Service in February, the crime was widely seen as a referendum on the national psyche. Stack, who killed himself and one other person while injuring 13, was said to represent a strain of legitimate grievances in A …

Question: Lived in NJ worked in NYC for 4 months in ’07 then moved to CA. NY W2 lists entire year’s income. How to file?
Our accountant is claiming that there isn’t a way to break out the income actually earned while physically working in NYC unless it is listed that way on the W2. The company says it has issued the W2 correctly (which lists the entire years income in box 16 and nothing for local wages in box 18). Thus NY is claiming that we owe taxes on that whole amount. We filed NJ taxes and CA taxes. How are we supposed to list the income on our NY tax form? Please help!!! Thanks!
Answer: You file the NYS part time resident form. it is simple. You will pay NY/NJ (this is a different question why you have to do both) tax for 4/12th of your pay for the year, and 8/12th of your pay to CA.
Just make sure you have the correct forms. I did it. A pain in the butt, but not that big of a deal
