Tax Professional Resume

Question: SHOULD I BE WORRIED ABOUT THIS AFFECTING A JOB OFFER?
I went for an important job interview yesterday at a great non-profit. They seemed to really like me, and asked me to fill out a background/credit check form. Usually I have no problem with this (I have decent credit and nothing to worry about on my background check), but she mentioned something about using it to check my work history.
Now, I’m a soon to be college graduate. I don’t have much work history. What I put on my resume were jobs where I was given a tax-free stipend, so it’s not like I would pay taxes or have it show up on my background check.
I gave them professional references where they could call and check up on my resume – but do you think this work history thing will affect my prospects for getting the job?
Answer: The tax-free stipend should still appear on a background check…but i don’t believe it will affect your candidacy for this job. The background check is just to make sure that you haven’t been working under different names and etc. Good luck and congratulations!

Tax Preparer Jobs

Question: Where to report income as a paid tax preparer?
I made a little bit of money doing taxes on the side of my job last year, I cannot find my notes for how I was supposed to report the money on my 1040 this year. This year I have 2 jobs and am in a really hectic schedule. Do not have time to scour the Pub 17 or any other publications. I believe that I report it as other income on the 1040, but I do not remember the schedule or other form that I needed to fill out. Please help! I cannot find the answer on the internet anywhere b/c everyone is so focused on the new guidelines for paid preparers this year! I’m only doing my taxes this year, and I’m just simply searching for where I report last years income from tax prep last year. Please help! I seriously do not have time for this this year! Thank you!!
Answer: You report this income on Schedule C or C-EZ. If you made more than $400 net preparing others’ taxes, you also file Schedule SE for self employment taxes.

Tax Accounting Resume

Question: HELP! I need to know if my resume is good?!?
I was excited to find about the Corporate Tax Internship position with Countrywide Financial Corporation via BruinView at UCLA.
I am confident that I can contribute significantly to the company. I have strong analytical skills, which I continuously strengthen by tutoring mathematics (see attached resume). Additionally, I possess excellent organizational and communication skills. As a Business Economics major with an Accounting minor, I have a cumulative UCLA GPA of 3.83. I completed Intermediate Financial Accounting I with an “A” grade, and plan to complete Intermediate Financial Accounting II and Management Accounting by the end of the spring quarter. I meet the requirements necessary to be successful at the Tax Internship position.
I would be glad to further discuss my qualifications and how I can be a valuable asset to the company. I look forward to hearing from you soon to arrange for an interview.
Are there any corrections or revisions necessary or is my resume perfect?Answer: Looks pretty darn good to me. And good job on your qualifications…you will make a fine bean counter one day. Except how about ” I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my qualifications in greater detail…” and ” how I WOULD be” not “can be”. a valuable asset. Just suggestions…good luck.

Online Tax Preparation Jobs

Question: Any tax experts out there?
I’ve run into somewhat of a snag with my tax filing this year and I need some advice.
I started a new job January 2007 and I claimed the exact same info on my W-4 form for my new job as I did for my old job. My husband and I file jointly as a married couple and my husband has been at the same job now for 7 years and has never changed his tax filing. We usually receive roughly around a $1200 return each year. However, this year we somehow owe $215! We always use the free online TurboTax® Tax Preparation Software. We’ve triple checked ourselves and we’re stuck at this point. Does anyone have ANY idea where we might have gone wrong?Answer: H & R block will check your return for a charge of $29 and let you know if it is okay or may need to be amended. They are right in that any changes can affect the outcome. Turbo tax is not associated with H & R Block they are 2 seperate companies. Claudeshappywife you may need to check your return this year also. Just because his daughter turned 18 doesn’t mean he cant claim her. Was she there all year? did he pay over half of her support? was she in school? If in school she would still qualify as a dependent for EIC. Also there are deductions for College Education if he paid any of her tuition & fees (even if was a loan from a bank). Good Luck Both of you.

Professional Tax Exemption

Question: do you have to charge sales tax on website construction in MO or is it a professional service exemption?
Answer: Here’s the Missouri Sales and use tax web site:
http://www.dor.mo.gov/tax/business/sales/
So far everything I’ve seen says “retail sales of tangible personal property and CERTAIN SERVICES”, but I was unable to find which services are taxed.
(“Personal property” means anything other than real estate, and “tangible” means it hurts when it hits you. “Intangible” refers to assets on paper, such as patents, copyrights, contracts, trademarks, trade names, etc.)
