WASHINGTON (AP) — Tax Day is a dreaded deadline for millions, but for nearly half of U.S. households it’s simply somebody else’s problem.
About 47 percent will pay no federal income taxes at all for 2009. Either their incomes were too low, or they qualified for enough credits, deductions and exemptions to eliminate their liability. That’s according to projections by the Tax Policy Center, a Washington research organization.

Question: Is it too late to donate to charity for my 2009 taxes?
I know certain things the deadline is April 15th or extension (Oct 15th) for personal income taxes..
However can I still donate bags to goodwill/salvation on say March 28th and then be able to claim them for my 2009 year taxes?
I know charity rules has changed recently so please make sure your answer is current with today’s laws, thanks!
Answer: No. Except for cash donations to Haiti relief which can be deducted for 2009 even if made 1/12/10-2/28/10, charitable donations have to have been made by 12/31/09 to qualify for deduction on 2009 taxes.
