Amended Return Tax Credit

Amended Return Tax Credit

Question: How long do I have to amend my 2008 tax return for the $7500.00 tax credit?

My husband and I bought a home in Dec. 2008 and have recently decided to amend our 2008 tax return so that we can get the $7500.00 tax credit. I was just wondering how long do we have to do this? My tax guy hasn’t called me back and I don’t want to miss out on this credit, when is the deadline to amend for this?

Answer: CALL the tax guy and get it over and done with. . . .sooner you do it, sooner you get the money. Takes 12-16 weeks from filing to get the $$. Send a copy of your HUD-l along with amended return and 5405, to avoid delays.

It’s a GREAT deal, $7500 no interest loan repayable in $500 increments over 15 years or when you sell.
It’s a SMART thing to put all or most of it as additional principal payment on your home. First 7 years you are paying interest, interest, and taxes, and very little principal. Extra principal payments during first couple years make a HUGE impact in amount of interest paid over the life of the loan!

Question: Where can I find a chart of the local tax rates in NC?

I am looking for a chart or map of the local sales tax rates for individual counties and|or zip codes (if possible) in the state of NC.

Can’t seem to find it on the tax site but maybe I’m overseeing it, and there are lots of awesome people here who can answer this simple question. =)

Thanks
