Question: What is a good second major with accounting?
I’m thinking about declaring a dual major in my graduate studies. What do you think is a good major that will complement my accounting degree: Taxation or Information Technology (IT)?
Taxation meshes in with Accounting really well, and most accounting work is done with IT. So, which one would you choose if you were in my position.
*BTW, I already have some tax experience.
Answer: Tax accounting is really different from everything else. You need to decide on your ultimate goal. If you want to be in the tax department then go that route. If you want to work through the accounting ranks as the GL Accountant, Controller, CFO, etc then you need to do the IT thing. I have never known a CFO who came from a tax background. I’m sure it can be done but it is certainly not as common. Your options with the IT path will be much better.
