Question: HM Inland Revenue Internet Problem?

I try to do the first step on the online Tax Return and every time it says : please amend the post code.
I used to live in the UK but now I live in France and my address which I used for another Tax Revenue a year ago is not working. even when I tried my old post-code from England it still displayed the same message. I deleted the History and the Cookies and it is still doing it. The help-line is busy and they are constantly cutting me off plus calling them is costing me a fortune. What should I do?

Answer: Change country in the address – that’s the first step – then it stops demanding a post code.

Question: Was there ever a time when a couple would file a joint tax form in Canada, or has it always been individual.?

For people living in Canada, was there ever a time or year(s) when a married or common-law couple filed a tax return together, or has it always been that everyone files individual returns but lists their spouse and income on their return?

Answer: Yes, some time ago. IIRC, the change was made to remove any bias from the system which favoured married vs unmarried (or vice versa).

Unless Congress intervenes, this Halloween will be an especially scary one for U.S. Internet users. At midnight on October 31, the federal ban on Internet taxes expires, loosing state and local governments to tax Internet services received by Americans. The House of Representatives last week voted to extend the tax ban another four years, but it refused to make the ban permanent. The issue is now before the Senate. Since it was adopted nine years ago, the Internet tax ban has proven to be sensible and successful. Rather than let it expire, Congress should make the ban permanent.

Answer: The Refund Cycle Chart and WMR site has both been unreliable. You could get it earlier or much later. At this point there is no guarantee when you will get your refund. If the date you are expected to get your refund has passed then I would recommend you call the IRS directly. Call 1-800-829-0922.
