Question: How do you feel about this? In the USA, a mandatory 2.5 years in government service, NOT THE MILITARY, UNLESS?

THE PERSON SO DESIRED.The service could be with local, state or federal government. They would be paid positions. The service would be in one of five areas choosen by the person. I think this would give individuals an idea of what they would want to do in life and what courses they would want to take in college. It would, in the long run, save the tax payers money, because there would be no long-term benefits, like retirement, to pay. You could set it up with an over-lap so the out going person would train the incoming person. This would free-up the supervisors to supervise and insure continuity. Serious and literate answers only, please.

Answer: I think it’s a great idea too. Everyone should, at some point in their life, contribute something (other than taxes) to the country they live in. Making it mandatory would make it less enjoyable, however. People should do it because it’s the right thing to do, not because it’s required.

Question: If I moved after filing my tax return, should I use my new address for my amended tax return?

I filed my 2008 federal and state tax return this past February. At the end of March 2009, I purchased a home and have subsequently moved. As such, I would like to file an amended 2008 tax return to claim the $8,000 first time homebuyer credit. When I file the amended return, which address should I use in the personal information section of the return? I used my old address when I originally filed, and I’m not sure if I should update this with my new address for the amended return. My old address is the one on all of my W2’s. I’m not sure if it matters, but I moved from one county in MD to another county in MD. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer: Yes – you should fill out your amended tax return to show your new address and there is a box on it to mark “if your address has changed since you originally filed your return”

People have condemned the Government as “greedy and oppressive” after plans emerged to give a new army of council tax inspectors powers to enter private homes and penalise residents who refuse to co-operate with fines of £1,000 or more.

Answer: =I totally agree with you. Enough is enough. Big Brother is everywhere. How about starting a petition, collecting signatures and submitting it. Better yet, why not run for office and change things yourself. Best of luck.

According to the Congressional Research Service, the federal income tax is not a tax on income. It is a privilege tax measured by income. In other words, Congress is taxing some government-defined privilege and income is merely the measuring stick to determine the value of the privilege. Nowhere in this report does CRS identify the so-called privilege that is the basis for the tax.

Israel receives over four billion dollars a year in direct aid from the U.S. (MY TAX MONEY) plus military aid so it can shoot guided missiles in response to crude home-made rockets that never seem to do any damage.

double standards are just amazing, I am sick to death of hearing Israelis use their security as an excuse to kill over 300 children alone in Gaza last time.

Answer: On the basis of factual evidence, most of the world would agree with your logic. Unfortunately those who hear and see only american media coverage are uninformed about the facts.
In other words, yes, the US sends billions of dollars and stands behind Israel’s expanding occupation of larger areas of Palestine, despite UN resolutions against it.
