Question: tax return in canada?

i worked for a year in canada on a working holiday visa, i will soon be going back home to europe – how do i go about getting a tax return?
i know there are companies that can do it, but one quoted me 10% as their fee, and having estimated that i may be entitled to $2000 return, that would mean im paying them $200 which seems a bit of a rip off.

Answer: First, determine if you are considered a resident or a non-resident of Canada. Once you’ve figured that out, you’ll be able to use either the General Income Tax Return, or the Return for non-residents and deemed residents.

The UC and CSU app are both looking for my 2009 estimated total family income, but my mom hasn’t filed her tax return yet or something like that, so what do i do?

Answer: I put something around what my mom made last year. She has the same job and works about the same so that’s why.

You can just get the average she’s made monthly and just X 12

I don’t think you need to be spot on, as long as your not off by tens of thousands of dollars you know?

I’m going to file U.S tax for 2007 under the resident alien category. As I moved back to Canada, do I need to file income tax for 2008 if I still have a saving account in U.S that may generate some interest this year. If anyone knows, please reply. Thanks.

P.S: The estimate interest may be less than $50.

Answer: I would think not…

$50 less $3,400 exemption leaves no taxable income…

The IRS may get your 1099-INT but if there are no W-2 wages or 1099 payments, then I would assume they would ignore it…
