Question: How Can I File my 2007 Tax Return?

I just found out from a friend that I can file last year’s tax return that I didn’t get to turn in last year. It’s a long story, but I had filed for an extension to the April 15 deadline last year. So on October 15, the day of the deadline for the extension (yes, I know, I’m a procrastinator), I was trying to complete my return online with Turbotax, but when I finally finished, I hit “Send” and the only thing that came back was a message saying, “The last day to file was October 15, 2008. I couldn’t believe it. It was exactly October 15th, a little before 9pm, and yet this message was saying that the date had passed. Needless to say, my e-mail to TurboTax went unanswered. So that’s why I didn’t get to file my return last year. Anyway, I just found my 2007 W-2 forms. How can I file last year’s return?

Answer: You have three years to file a tax return/correct a return… there will be penalties if you owe money and did not file an extension and things like that but no it is not October 15th 2008!!!

Call the IRS they are very helpful and can direct to you to the correct forms, and give you reliable information!

Question: Is it true you can submit your Tax Return Online in the UK by Jan. 31st 2010?

I want to hand in a short self assessment (I’m only a one-woman-company) and this year, I want to do it online, because I missed the deadline 31st October. Now I found on the HM revenue and customs site the deadline of Jan. 31st. (I thought it was Dec. 31st !). Is that actually referring to tax returns which would have been due by Oct. 31st 2009? Because I’m worried that I submit it too late and it seems so unlikely that it will be still time next year. If there is really time till the end of January though, I would do it after my Christmas holidays.
Does anyone know?

fen girl, but if I need to pay something and only submit the tax return in January, will I have time to pay in time? I actually still owe them money from last year too I’m just glad they are so patient.

Answer: Yes deadline now 31st January. If you do the return online, computation should be available immediately, so the sooner you do it, the sooner you will know how much you owe.
The bailiffs don’t come out as soon as money due, but if you pay late, you get charged interest.

Question: Are people aware of the new UK Tax Return Deadline?

I just wondered if people knew about the new paper Tax Return Deadline. Last year you used to be able to file on 31st January but now the HMRC (Inland Revenue) are pushing people to file online and have brought the paper filing deadline forward to 31st October this year.

I just wondered if people are aware of it.

Answer: It does say it on the front of the Paper returns…so you only have to read it.
