Question: What is a fair price for an accountant to do my small business taxes?

I have everything in Quicken, along with all my paperwork. It shows all my utilities and bills and other things I can deduct. It’s already pretty organized. Plus my small business made under 10k last year. What would it cost to have my taxes done by a legit CPA?




Answer: I send my accountant a copy of my Quickbooks on a disk, and he charges me $1,600 for state and federal tax returns. I complete my own 1099′s and W-2′s, and quarterly 941′s, so the $1,600 is just for the two annual returns. I give myself a large bonus at the end of the years so my company usually doesn’t show any income. I think I my accountant might be a little over priced though.

I’m in the process of being accepted in to two of the top four accounting firms and I’m quite excited to say the least.
