Income Tax Calculator Estimator

Question: what is the impact of the 2008 stimulus check towards tax filing?

what is the impact of the 2008 stimulus check towards income tax filing? i just did a quick estimator/calculator at HR Block online to see how our income tax file would look like and it says we owed $xxxxx amount to the IRS.. does this mean we are basically paying back the stimulus check back to the IRS ?

Answer: What the tax rebate wasn’t:
The tax rebate payment was not interest, it was not income, it was not a dividend. Pure and simple, the tax rebate payment was an advance credit for tax year 2008 and it will be calculated on your 2008 return when you file.It was an advance credit that you received early; if you’ve already received the full amount to which you’re entitled, you won’t receive any further credit.

Turbotax Online Free Edition

Turbotax Online Free Edition

Question: FREE turbotax filing stimulus question?

Alright i know how much i’m looking at getting back and when i prepared my taxes I used turbotax online free edition… as for my DD bracket i fall in the may 9th section… when the return was deposited it was from the IRS so am i looking at DD or a long wait for the paper check?
you guys rock, the whole turbotax, H&R Block, and Jackson Hewwit thing started to confuse me, thank you for your help!

Answer: This is my situation too!! I filed but didn’t pay fees!! It was FREE and my social ends in 42, so I’m hoping that it’s this up coming week!! Nothing on the “Where’s my Stimulus” thing yet though!! CONFUSING!!

** I really wish the IRS could have stuck to what they said all along…if you got DD then you get DD, Paper is Paper!! Not wait until the week it starts to be sent out and then add all these provisions!! I know that alot of people really need this money…after all I don’t consider it “FREE MONEY”!! It’s money to stimulate this economy that has been going down hill….with just gas prices alone!! Not to mention food prices, rent/mortgages…and so forth!! In fact, I don’t think what everyone is getting is going to even stimulate the economy one bit!! It’ll take more than that!! Just figure I share this since I keep on seeing people telling others to “CALM DOWN” or “STOP GRUMBLING”!!

***And just to answer the one below me…I am not whinning!! I’m merely speaking for the people who SHOULD have gotten theirs this past week but have not for whatever reason!! I know all to well that I’m scheduled for next week!! That’s what I said in my first paragraph!! I’m just reading alot of people (like you) who keep telling people who have not gotten their rebates yet who according to the schedule should have…to stop whinning!! THANK YOU!!

Online Tax Preparer Software

Question: Online Tax Filing vs Tax Firm Filing, any difference in refund?

I was just trying to decide which way to proceed with tax filing. I have used either Turbo Tax or H & R Block online software to do my filing for years. This year has been very hard for us, as I am sure it has been with the rest of the board here, and I need all monies owed to us by the government. My question is with a relatively simple filing status: married with children, homeowner, no other income, no stocks or bonds, etc. would a professional tax preparer be able to get me a larger refund? Please unbiased responses only. Thanks

Answer: With a simple tax situation, there is almost no reason to use a tax prep company. It’s wasted money.

The simple fact you can write a well thought out question addressing the situation tells me you are well capable of doing it yourself.

The online or computer based filing programs walk you through all the relevant deductions, paying H&R or someone a few hundred dollars to essentially do that for you is nonsense.
