Online Taxes 2009

Question: What do I have to pay two different state taxes for 2009?
I work a full time job in PA, and a part time job in MD. When I went to do my taxes myself online it was telling me that I owe both MD and PA taxes for my state. How is this possible? Usually on my PA taxes I break even and don’t owe anything but this year I owe PA and MD? Is this correct?
Answer: If you work (or work and live) in two different states, you will file tax return in both the states. One state is your tax home. In the state that is not your tax home, report income you earned while in that state.
If you have received only one W2 from your employer, then use simple arithmetic based on number of days spent in the state to figure our the income that you should report to this state.
In the state that is your tax home, report your worldwide income for full year. Also in this state claim credit for the taxes paid to the other state.

Question: Turbo Tax returns question?
I am having trouble with filing my taxes online. What do I do if I didn’t get tax returns last year? Also where can I find my AGI for the year 2009? Thanks for your time.
Answer: You didn’t file tax a return last year for your 2008 taxes?
If not, you will not have the AGI for filing your 2009 taxes (this amount would be what you need to be able to e-file online for your 2009 taxes.
Your question is a bit confusing, maybe you can clarify.
Tax year 2008 – did you file a return?
If you did file a return for 2008, you must get your return and look for the AGI which is line 37 on Form 1040 (it is the last item on the very 1st page of any tax return or the first line on page 2 of a tax return (Form 1040 line 38, 2nd page)!

Question: When will I get my tax rebate if I used Turbo Tax online to file my tax return?
I used turbo tax online to file my taxes and chose to direct deposit, but the deposit went to Santa Clara Bank then to my account……when sould I expect my rebate?
My social ends in 02, so I was expecting it today, May 2nd, but it has not been deposited yet.Answer: When the IRS deposited your refund, they deposited into the Santa Clara Bank as you noted, then that bank transferred it to your bank account, after deducting any applicable fees. That means the IRS has the Santa Clara Bank’s info, not yours, so you won’t get your rebate via direct deposit. You’ll get a paper check mailed to you.
That information is right on TurboTax’s website.
