Tax Return Payment Options

Tax Return Payment Options

Question: I’m using Turbotax software for my tax 2006 return. If I use the efile option, must I pay my tax debt now?

Do I need to pay the taxes immediately when I file, or do I send the payment to the IRS separately?

Answer: You can’t e file your return after the 15th of October.

You don’t ever have to pay when you file. You will be charged interest and potentially late fees, but you never “have” to pay when filing. Usually you get a voucher to pay the money owed.

Don’t worry, if you owe money, the IRS will be sure to let you know about it.

Federal Tax Lien Payoffs

Question: Overnight address for a Federal Tax Lien payment?

Before I call the IRS tomorrow. Does anyone know the address to send via FedEx? The address provided on the payoff letter is a P.O. Box and FedEx won’t deliver to a P.O. Box.

Thanks in advance.

Answer: You could take your payment to a local office http://www.irs.gov/app/officeLocator/index.jsp . If you absolutely positively have to get it to that location, there should be a phone number you can call. If the location is not too far away, you can save some bucks by using priority mail which is a lot cheaper and within a state usually is delivered in one day.
