Question: What should I do once I’ve qualified as a chartered accountant next year?

I’m doing my training in corporate tax assurance in a big 4 firm. I don’t plan on staying with the firm once I qualify. What are my options?

Answer: There are a whole lot of opportunities outside the Chartered environment. You are more than likely to be specialised in a particular industry while working in Big 4 practice – you can determine whether or not you like that type of industry and go for companies within that industry. Being a qualified CA and coming from a specialised practice in Big 4 would give you a competitive advantage when it comes to scoring a job in the industry.

Answer: Timing differences create deferred tax assets/liabilities.

Since this is first year, deferred taxes would be based on $750k – $550k = $200k of timing differences.
