Question: New online-based job asking for tax information?
I applied for a job working online (IT Tech remote assistance) I’m sure that it is legit.. where I use to work their tech services were provided by the same company. To be “certified” as a tech I’ve passed a few steps and pre crap but now they are asking for a copy of my tax form. Is this the same as a tax return? If so why would a new job want old tax info? Shouldn’t THEY be the one to have to get that info if needed? ..I don’t want to send them that kind of personal information because it has bank routing information and a bank account number on it. –thanks.
thanks for the heads up, got to looking at my last return and realized that all the numbers on it is for my past job.. so inless their talking about a completely different ‘tax form’ their not getting any 1040 or w-2 info. thats info based off my last job anyways, has nothing to do with them. i emailed them and asked them why they need it, nothing back yet.Answer: They either need a Form W-4 if you will be an employee or a W-9 if you will be an independent contractor. They have no need for copies of any of your tax returns, current or past.
