VimpelCom Announces Fourth Quarter and Full-Year 2009 Financial and Operating Results

Question: How much income tax do you pay in the UK?

Any figures for an annual income of 30k£, 40k£, 50k£ ? Or better, is there a tax calculator online?

Answer: There are two types of UK tax, Income and National insurance

Income tax is the usual goverment tax while National Insurance covers Healthcare and Pensions and those on the dole although at the end of the day it goes into the same pot.

Everyone in the UK gets a personal allowance of income on which they pay no income tax.

The current level of personal allowance is £5,035pa although this increases if you are blind (£1,660) , over 65 year old (£2,245) and you get an extra allownce you can share with your partner if you are married (£1,030)

Standard tax rates on a non married person are therefore:
0% on the first £5,035pa
10% on £5,035 to £7,185pa
22% on £7,185-£35,450pa
and 40% on income over that.

National insurance is charged at
0% on the first £4,888pa
11% on £4,888 to £32,760pa
and 1% on income over £32,760pa
and 40% on any income

Tax would therefore be on those amounts quoted

£30k = total incomeand NI = £7,996
£40k = total incomeand NI = £11,390
£50k = total incomeand NI = £15,490

Question: How can I get the lien on my Canadian income tax lifted?

For the past 2 years my income tax refunds have been immediately transferred to help cover my Ontario Student Loan debt. I don’t dispute that I have student loan debt, and I am making payments to get rid of them. This year will likely be rather difficult for my family financially. I am the sole provider for 4. We really need my income tax refund. I took 3 courses last year to improve my professional development, and I should receive the bulk of the costs back. I have heard that getting such liens lifted is possible, however I cannot find an address or contact number to call. I’ve written a detailed letter to the Canada Revenue Agency, but I don’t know where to send it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer: Send the letter to the same address you file your taxes. You should already have your tax return form, and there is information on how to contact them included in the first pages of the instruction book.
