Question: What is property tax adjust? Should I do it? (CA)?

I purchased this home in the end of 2005 with $335K. Now, the value of this home is only $168K. Lately, I got a letter from the company (a professional tax adjustment organization, they say.) who recommended us to receive a reduction of my property’s assessed value and corresponding reduction in property taxes. Looks like I can do by myself even though it looks like a long way, or I can authorize this company to perform all the steps on my behalf with fee, of course. Should I do this? It also says that in any reason if my property taxes cannot be lowered, the $95 fee will be refunded. Does it worth the fee?

Answer: Scam. All they’re going to do is submit a reassessment request on your behalf to the county tax assessor. You can do that yourself for free.
