Question: What do I need to prepare taxes for friends and family?

I am a tax preparer but the company I work for only permits one Free Tax Preparation, namely my own. I want to prepare taxes for family and friends, free of charge, who would otherwise have to pay hundreds of dollars to file their returns. Is there some software I can buy that will allow me to prepare MULTIPLE tax returns (fed + state)? Thank you for your help.

Answer: TurboTax is a great software to use for both Federal and State. However, make sure you don’t put your name as the preparer in those tax returns. Many tax preparation companies like HR Block and Jackson Hewitt prohibited their employees prepare tax returns using other softwares other than their own so be careful on this.

IRS to start regulating paid tax preparers

WASHINGTON- The Internal Revenue Service plans to start regulating paid tax preparers, requiring them to register with the government, pass competency tests and adhere to ethical standards.
