Question: Self Employed in the UK: Paying National Insurance?
I’ve just registered online as self employed and have received a letter back saying that I’ll now need to start filling in tax returns – but there’s no mention of national insurance. Is this taken care of on the same form, then paid retrospectively the following year, or do I need to sort it out and start paying now?
Answer: You have to pay Class 2 on a weekly/monthly basis. Class 4 is calculated at the same time as your tax, you get a computation after completing Tax Return.
