Question: Help with UK student finance with having a part time job?

I am currently doing my online student finance application, in the UK, through student finance england direct gov. I was asked if I had any income, earned or unearned, and I marked yes as I have a small part time job at sainsburys.

Because I marked yes, I had to fill out something about taxable income and on here it said “don’t count your part time job” so I actually didn’t need to fill out anything about tax. I looked back, and if I mark “no” to having any income, the tax page doesn’t need to be filled out.

Should I say I don’t earn any income, because the money I do earn doesn’t even appear to matter in their eyes? My money is well below the tax rate and they do say don’t count part time jobs :S or will they think it’s fraud or something?

Question: ebay sales tax, please help?

well i am trying to buy a laptop at ebay which is located in united states.i am new to ebay and haven’t bought anything online. the marked price at ebay is $1100. i would like to know that am i separately charged sales tax or not.It is also written that seller charges selling tax for items shipped to california.As i have to ship the laptop outside united states, i am a bit confused. also is there any charges except shipping charges that i will have to pay to ship the laptop to australia or united kingdom such as money that i should pay to the government for importing the laptop from united states ( import tax) and so on.
Also could you know what is the approximate customs tax rate for shipping items from us to uk from ebay? The item i am going to ship costs 1100 us$

Answer: Sales tax is not charged if the delivery is outside of the state of California. Shipping to you in the UK is outside of the state.

If you import the laptop into the UK (or Australia), there will be customs tax to pay. if the item is shipped via UPS or any 3rd party shipper, there would also be a brokerage fee. Both of these are billed to you and payable on delivery. The seller will NOT be able to tell you what they will be. All the seller can do is fill out the customs forms correctly (by the way, this is not a gift and it’s a crime to list as such on the form) and, if he’s nice, include a copy of the auction page showing what you actually paid. This page is your invoice and what you use to appeal if the charge you too much tax.
