Amend Taxes For House Credit

Question: Can I amend my 2008 taxes to get the $7,500 tax credit loan I qualified for?
I bought a $120k house in Aug 2008 but chose not to take the $7,500 credit during the last tax season. I realize now that it was interest free and I could have applied it to the principle of the mortgage and saved hundreds a year in interest. If I can’t amend 2008 taxes, will I given an option to opt for it on the 2009 taxes?
Answer: You bought in 2008, so you can ONLY claim it on the 2008 tax return.
The 2008 tax return can be amended. Be sure to include a copy of the closing statement with the 1040x and 5405.
