Question: Why do different online tax sites give me varying amounts for a refund?

I’ve tried 3 different free online tax sites, used the same information for each one, yet get varying amounts for a refund. One even says I owe for federal… I don’t get it. I have checked and rechecked to make sure I didn’t make any mistakes but I get a different amount for each site. Why?

Answer: At least two of the sites, possibly all three, are wrong.

Download the forms for filing on paper from http://www.irs.gov, and use those forms (and a good calculator) to determine the correct refund. The correct amount is the same for paper and online filings.
