Uk Income Tax Self Employed

Question: What benefits do single mums get?
Things aren’t going well between me and my husband and I wondered what sort of benefits I would get in the UK? I have got 3 children so if we split how would it work? Would I get income support? I am also a self employed childminder would I still be able to work as well as receive benefits? How much full tax credit would I receive? Is there anything else I could claim for? My friend reckons I could get 25% off my council tax. What about the mortgage and bills would I have to manage them all by myself? Or would my husband still have to keep us in the house and pay towards bits?
Answer: ok i will do my best to answer, if you are working you can’t claim income support, you will receive child tax credits, if you pay for child care you will get working families tax credit which is 70% of your bill,
if you are living alone you only have to pay half council tax make sure you get that changed, and you may even be able to claim some housing benefit towards your mortgage.
As far as your husband goes tho he will have to pay maintenance for the children I would say £300 per month is fair, although I only have one child and get £410 from my ex but that is through csa as he refused to pay (and he earns alot) if you can come to an agreement yourselves that would be much better,
as far as the house goes it is up to you two to come to an agreement, if you want to stay in the house he will have to continue paying the mortgage until your youngest child is 18, then you can either buy him out or sell the house and split the money, either way it is still half his,
bottom line is don’t screw him over I hate seeing a woman taking everything a man has got and leaving them with nothing.
Make sure you get all of this down with a solicitor, don’t give him the chance to change his mind in 5 years
good luck xx
