Question: Can I correct my tax return after I already filed it?

I filed my federal Tax Return Online some time last week (form 1040A). However, I declared my scholarships as income, but someone told me that I should not have done that because the scholarships were tax free. Is there some way to correct my tax return so my scholarships are not included as income?

Answer: You can file an amended return (1040X) but I would wait until they process the original return first. Otherwise, you may screw things up more.

Question: Govt Computation/Approval-Tax Rates & Accountability- Collections?

How does the Government compute the Tax rates like Service Tax(=12.3%),upto 30% IT,etc etc. Who gives the consent to such high rates (many business does not make this much profit after taxes); Do Govt’s have a rational logic/rationale and Objectivity in such decisions (in India).If there is objectivity then apolitical persons or the common people need not bother much about which Political parties take up Governance.What in democratic governments thwart objectivity in such Policy decisions that effects the Country as a whole. Whereas Individual’s are accountable to the Tax Departments, How (through Who) does the Government account itself to the said Individual(s). Who will question Whom,extreme disparities in income and Quality of life in spite of such long prevailing taxation systems. Is this arcane knowledge (should be) known only to the governing elite?
