Tax Accounting Definition

Question: Which of the following is not by definition an expense?
a: Salaries paid
b: Accounts Payable
c: Advertising
d: Income Taxes
Answer: b. Accounts payable is a liability. Accounting is dual-entry, which means that it is often matched by an expensed, but by definition it is NOT an expense.
Advertising, salaries and income taxes are expenses. Okay, salaries paid is technically a cash item, not an accrual item, but if we were to choose between one being farther from being an expense – the liability is farther.

Canada Income Tax Moving Expenses

Question: Work at home – need to register with CRA?

My total income is around 19,000 CAD, almost no deductible expenses.I am about to file a tax return for 2007.
Question:
Was I supposed register as Self Employed with CRA before I file, or do I just file Tax Return form for 2007 and state my business address as my home address? If I have to register and do it now, will I be subject to any fines, since I conducted a small business without notifying CRA in advance?
Answer: I like to know about your work at home expericence. I am looking to work at home, and would like to know how to get started if you didn’t mind…..=)

Best Tax Professional Software

Question: Sold a rental. Hire professional to do taxes or do myself as I have the last 8 yrs with tax software? Advice?
Answer: the only tricky bits are adjusting your basis for depreciation for each year you owned the property (including this year), possible depreciation recapture if you used accelerated depreciation, and the maybe effect of AMT from prior years and/or the current year.
the capital gain bit is straightforward after you have these parts worked out, as is the AMT for this year.
