Amend Tax Return For House Credit

Amend Tax Return For House Credit

Question: Would the IRS catch it if we filed the amended return with a mistake?

Bought a house from parents dated jan. 13,2009. Qualified for the $8K first time homebuyers tax credit but disqualifies if bought from parents. Already filed and submitted an amended return to IRS. Would IRS catch it right away despite the parents last name are different from the buyers (son/daughter) last name?

Answer: IRS would catch obvious errors but not something that could be determined just by looking at the return that was filed.
